BITS & PIECES

Another State of Mind Bookstore, 16608 Madison Ave., Lakewood, will be closed May 27th for the Memorial Day holiday

Jews around the world observed Yom HaShoah, the commemoration of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, one of many acts of Jewish resistance during the Holocaust, on May 2. Yom HaShoah is also considered a day of mourning for the six million Jews who were murdered during World War II and for the survivors.

Children of some of those survivors plan to meet when Jewish Lesbian Daughters of Holocaust Survivors holds their eighth gathering May 5-7, 1989 in New Hampshire. The group meets semiannually for a weekend of discussion, support and networking around issues faced by children of survivors. JLDHS has more than 100 members from across the United States and Canada, and the list is growing as more Lesbian daughters of survivors learn of the existence of this support group.

JLDHS is for lesbians whose parent or parents survived the Holocaust. This includes parents who were in Nazi Europe or North Africa in 1933 or later and who survived death camps, or by passing as non-Jews or by managing to leave for safer territories. Jewish and non-Jewish lesbian partners of daughters are welcomed, and may attend workshops specifically for partners.

The Human Rights Campaign Fund has begun a nationwide survey to compile a directory of state and local lesbian and gay political action committees.

The new directory, called Power PACS and POLS, will be a valuable tool for networking and exchanging information between gay and lesbian political groups

around the country. For example, an organization planning on lobbying for a local civil rights ordinance or considering making effective contributions to politicians could contact groups listed in the directory that already have experience in such activities.

The directory will list the name, phone number and key contact of each organization, along with a brief description of the group and its projects and other helpful information.

Political organizations who want to appear in the directory should write to HRCF, 1012 14th Street N.W., Suite 607, Washington, D.C. 20005, Attention: Power PACS and POLS. The directory is scheduled for publication and distribution later this year.

The Fund for Human Dignity, the educational organization of the gay and lesbian community, is pleased to announce the availability of three new publications.

Workshops on Homophobia and Homosexuality for College Campuses ($6) is a collection of three workshop designs successfully used at Wesleyan, Brown and Cornell Universities to combat anti-gay bias on campus.

Lesbian Projects: Public and Private Support ($7) reports on a study conducted by the Working Group on Funding Gay and Lesbian Issues. Based on two surveys of over 600 organizations sponsoring or potentially sponsoring lesbian projects and of 265 funders, the report analyzes patterns of funding gay and lesbian organizations as well as recommendations for breaking down barriers to funding lesbian projects. This landmark study will interest lesbian and gay organizations who are seeking funding as will as foundations who are seeking

to increase their support of lesbian and gay concerns.

Technical Assistance for Lesbian and Gay Organizations ($5) is a series of articles compiled by the Working Group on Funding Gay and Lesbian Issues which deal with such topics as long-range planning, organizational evaluation, funding resources, and fundraising. This compilation is a vital tool for gay and lesbian organizations in the process of expansion as well as those who are just beginning to contemplate such change.

Each of these new publications is available from the Fund For Human Dignity's National Lesbian and Gay Resource Center. The Resource Center produces a series of continually updated pamphlets and technical assistance packets in addition to distributing material produced by groups across the country.

The Resource Center constantly seeks to expand its collection. Please direct inquiries and sample copies of recent pamphlets, brochures, or curricula related to any gay-lesbian theme for review and possible distribution to: Abby Tallmer, Coordinator, National Lesbian and Gay Resource Center, The Fund for Human Dignity, 666 Broadway, Suite 410, New York, N.Y. 10012.
